About Us

CC4G is an innovative, award-winning initiative created by e-skills UK. It is an online learning resource that provides compelling, fun and educational activities for 10-14 year olds.

What is CC4G?

CC4G offers real-life, interactive ICT activities that aim to:

> Spark students’ interest in technology and redress negative perceptions
> Improve students’ IT skills
> Provide students with a new perspective on technology-related careers

New Features

The new-look CC4G now provides materials mapped to the National Curriculum at Key Stages 2 and 3 for all students – boys and girls.  New features include:

> Popular existing content and new materials (including sport, music, fashion and the environment) presented in learning journeys that allow bite-sized nuggets to be used with clearly defined and diverse learning outcomes

> All downloadable on to your local Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

> Flexibility to use our recommended journeys, create personalised learning journeys or upload your own content

Fully searchable based on the curriculum, software skill or interest

Where We Started

CC4G was originally created by e-skills UK, the Sector Skills Council for Business and Information Technology, in response to the gender imbalance within the IT industry. Research indicated that a key barrier to girls considering careers in technology is their perception of IT. Negative images are reinforced by their environment and, after the age of about 13 or 14, such attitudes become more entrenched and difficult to alter.

CC4G was initially piloted in the South East of England in partnership with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). CC4G was subsequently launched nationally in June 2005; the national programme was funded by Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) until March 2008.

Achievements to Date

During the past three years, CC4G has been a hugely successful programme, reaching over 125,000 girls in over 3,600 schools and helping them to change their perceptions of technology. For more details about its success, please visit www.e-skills.com.
