CC4G is an innovative, award-winning initiative created by e-skills UK and funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Created by e-skills UK, the not-for-profit Sector Skills Council for IT and Telecoms, the CC4G programme has been developed for girls in response to the gender imbalance within the IT industry.
Currently, only one in five of the UK's IT workforce is female and only 20% of those undertaking IT-related degree courses are women.
Research indicates that a key barrier to girls considering careers in technology is their perception of IT. Negative images are reinforced by their environment and, after the age of about 13 or 14, such attitudes become more entrenched and difficult to alter.
CC4G was piloted in the South East of England in partnership with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), which invested significantly in the development of the concept. DCSF and e-skills UK acknowledge SEEDA's financial support and role as founding partner.
Launched nationally in England in June 2005, CC4G is an innovative programme available FREE to DCSF-funded schools across England. CC4G is already benefiting more than 100,000 girls in over 3,100 schools.
Popular interests, such as music, fashion, dance, and celebrity have been combined with elements of the Key Stage 2 and 3 ICT curricula to deliver an engaging and fun approach for girls aged 10 to 14.
CC4G is a fully self-contained, out-of-school-hours Club which offers 61 hours of e-learning and 170 hours of offline projects and Challenges, designed to appeal specifically to girls' interests.
CC4G is an employer-driven initiative. Employers support the Clubs by providing industry-standard specialist software and linking with schools in a variety or ways. To see how you can get involved see our Employer pages.
CC4G is supported by some of the leading names in the industry, such as Serif, Gael, O-Music, Idigicon and Microsoft (see our Supporters page for details), which have donated their leading-edge software and is praised by government ministers, industry leaders, teachers, schools, and girls.
CC4G is capturing girls' imaginations, bringing to life what being a next generation female IT Professional has to offer and showing them how exciting it is to be a part of!
By running and supporting the programme, schools and employers can help transform the attitudes of a generation of girls to careers in IT.
